) My Hero
They found a very rare version of acid reflux. Once I was put on Flovant treatment, the swallowing problem went away. It came back the following year, and I went on the treatment again. Since then it has been chronic. My seizures became more frequent between 2003 and 2006. I started to experience hallucinations, visions, and double visions. Having the hallucinations was interesting, but also frightening. Often it was when I was relaxed that I would have them. I can remember looking to the wall on my right, and seeing images that looked like a 3-D movie. During this time, I also experienced severe jerking of my body, which often lasted an hour or more. Another symptom I experienced was when I was sleeping. I felt like I was running a marathon, but I wasn't. I didn't have an understanding of what was going on, and I didn't know what to think . ) Doctor, doctor
The American Nurses Study, which churns out data on tens of thousands of women, links oestrogen-containing HRT with reflux of acid from the stomach into the oesophagus - the underlying cause of heartburn. Women taking HRT were some one and a half times more likely than those who had never taken it to report reflux symptoms. Raloxifene (an anti-breast cancer agent that acts on oestrogen receptors) and herbal medicines such as soya (often taken instead of HRT) produced similar results. Common to all treatments is a rise in blood levels of nitric oxide, which relaxes the muscle between the oesophagus and stomach. But don't stop the HRT: talk to your GP about heartburn relief. It should deal with your discomfort. I've just had a baby and have very painful wrists from constantly picking her up. More>>

) Sounds of deer camp ring in my ears
Like acid reflux, he keeps coming up on a daily basis. Since last Sunday, the bell-bottom blue jeans era "Country Boy" has rattled around my brain. I'm sure valuable RAM gray matter was deleted so the lyrics "Country boy, you got your feet in L.A., but your mind's on Tennessee" could be stored as a non sequitur file. Unfortunately, no amount of mental floss can dislodge this song.
While a hot shower and shave stripped away the residue of deer camp four days ago, I can't simply wash away Glen Campbell. I'm stuck with him until my mind purges this useless tidbit. While it would unlikely change my predicament, it's too bad you can't file a restraining order on a song -- good thing for the Brittany Spearses of the world.
While Glen Campbell is not the ideal voice in my head, things could have been worse -- lyrically speaking. More>>

) Rare disease often gets misdiagnosed
Our mother, Pat Griffin, became part of this percentage, being first misdiagnosed with acid reflux. The treatment only delayed her true diagnosis. Two months ago, she started experiencing abdominal pain and unusual swelling in her side. Tests revealed that she actually had a tumor.
Unfortunately, even the type of tumor was misdiagnosed as colon cancer. It was not until her surgery that doctors finally discovered she was suffering from a very rare neuroendocrine tumor.
After surgery, her condition quickly worsened, and the late diagnosis prevented her from receiving the treatment she actually needed.
Abdominal pain, flushing, diarrhea, wheezing, skin rash, heartburn, fatigue, heart palpitations, low blood pressure, and weight changes are the most prevalent symptoms of carcinoid/NETs. More>>

) Taiwan President urges predecessor to drop hunger strike
Li Ta-chu, deputy warden of the detention center, said Saturday that Chen has had signs of nausea and acid reflux vomiting and that physicians will evaluate Chen's condition to decide whether to force him to receive a nutrition injection. Chen's action followed those by two other Democratic Progressive Party politicians: Yunlin County Magistrate Su Chih-fen and Chiayi County Magistrate Chen Ming-wen.
Su began a hunger strike after she was arrested Nov. 4 for allegedly taking a total of NT$21 million in bribes in two separate cases involving the granting of a permit to a landfill operator and the expansion of the Yunlin branch of Chang Gung Memorial Hospital.
Su was released Friday after being indicted on corruption charges.
Chen Ming-wen, meanwhile, was taken into custody by prosecutors Oct. More>>
